From the Principal

Fred Martin, Principal

“Welcome to St. Joseph Catholic School! It is my privilege to serve the St. Joseph Catholic School community as principal. Our faculty, staff, and parents cherish children, the vision of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma, and the goals of the Enid Catholic Community.”

— Fred Martin, Principal

As an evangelical and catechetical mission of the parish of St. Francis Xavier and St. Gregory the Great, we are entrusted to nurture the next generation of saints, and we wish to serve as many families as we can in this mission.

Relatively new to Enid, I have spent twenty years in education as a teacher, professor, curriculum coordinator, and principal in elementary and secondary schools. I have worked at schools public and private, Catholic and secular, local and international, at home and abroad. I began my teaching career at Launceston College, Tasmania, in 1999, and I continued in rural Texas as a language arts instructor for grades 7 through 12. In Bluffton, South Carolina, in addition to my duties as an adjunct professor at USCB, I was an English instructor at a large faculty serving many hundreds of students before accepting a position in the kingdom of Bahrain, where I taught International Baccalaureate classes to Bahraini nationals preparing for universities in the UK, the European continent, and America. I began my administrative career at the International School of Islamabad, first as IB curriculum coordinator, then as a secondary principal. After four years, my family and I returned to the United States, where I served the Diocese of Boise as an elementary principal. My family and I moved to Enid to be part of what we perceived to be a community of great faith, profound love of others, and the welcoming spirit of the Oklahoma pioneers. We are delighted to be here.

My formative background includes four years in the United States Air Force (1988-1991), Holy Protection Monastery (1993-1997), Chadron State College (1997-2000), College of Charleston and the Citadel (2005-2008), and Texas A&M at Commerce (2016-2018). Those experiences included service during Operation Desert Storm, a conversion to Catholicism in the Benedictine monastic tradition, a BA and MA in English literature, and an MS in Administration. it would be deceptive, however, if I were to fail to mention the most significant formative experience of my life: my marriage to my wife, Patti, and my fatherhood to our four children: Brittany, Ryan, Ginny, and Charlie, the last of whom is still at home. It is through marriage that our loving Lord has taught me the most about self-sacrifice, complete love of others, and sanctification through family suffering and joy. I hope that I may serve you and your family as you unite your family to the Enid Catholic community- a great place to live, work, and love.
